KUGAI SELF-DEFENSE
LEVELS (stages) OF SEXUAL ASSAULTS BY SOMEONE YOU KNOW

Each level of attack requires a response that is appropriate to the severity of the attack. It
is important that you learn to make the right decision based on your situation. Just as you
can not afford to hesitate during a dangerous moment, you also must not react too
severely to a non-threatening situation.

(The higher the number, the more dangerous the situation becomes)

1. The attacker invades your personal space, but does not touch or control any part of
your body.
The person is standing too close to you.

2. The attacker makes slight contact, allowing him/her to control part of your body.
The person is holding your hand or hugging you around your waist without
your consent.

3. The attacker decides to maintain control of your body part (non-sexual part), even
after you resist (vocally or physically).
You tell the person to let go or you try to move away and he/she does not
comply.

4. The attacker elevates the contact to one of a sexual nature.
The person tries to kiss you or touches your chest, buttocks, groin, legs, etc.

5. The attacker forces you to move somewhere to achieve his/her goal.
The person pulls you into a car, a room, or takes you down on the sofa.

6. The attacker touches a sexual part of your body by controlling you with
overpowering force.
The person pins you and begins touching your breasts & groin area.

7. The attacker inflicts slight pain to scare you from resisting.
The person slaps your face or twists your arm.

8. The attacker inflicts SEVERE pain to scare you from resisting.
The person punches your face or mid-section.

9. The attacker attempts to disable you in order to eliminate any resistance.
The person chokes or knocks you unconscious.

10. The attacker attempts sexual intercourse. That is a rape.

11. The attacker attempts to inflict severe damage or even death.
The person breaks your neck, bites off some part of your body, or kills you
because you know who has raped you.

Consequences:
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), AIDS (or other sexually transmitted diseases),
Pregnancy, Injuries, etc.
